Today Jon and Colleen (Jalene???) headed to Newport, RI (our third state in three days!) to see one of the beaches Travel and Leisure said was one of the best. While on the way, we reserved seats at the Pawtucket Red Sox game. The beach wasn't OVERLY crowded but it was pretty rocky on the ocean bottom in some paces and there was a lot of seaweed (and jellyfish). One highlight was the kids who were going out and finding crabs and then putting them into this giant moat-like thing they had constructed out of sand.
As for the Paw Sox game, the stadium was nice and full so that was fun to see, but absolutely NO on-field promotions (it's AAA, people!!!), the mascots (Paws (male) and Sox (female)) weren't nearly as cool as the mascots at historic Ernie Shore Field in Winston-Salem, NC, (Wally and "All the way from Mount Airy" Wilbur) and they didn't even tell you to get up for the 7th Inning Stretch! The only time the fans seemed to perk up was when they showed the Boston Red Sox score and played "Sweet Caroline." At least the fireworks were good. Colleen's score: C+. --POSTED BY COLLEEN
