January 12, 2009

Colleen returned to the land of the Coffee Cup (aka Logan International Airport) for a quick visit.

During the 3 1/2 hour layover at JFK, Colleen was horrified to learn that the Dunkin Donuts in the JetBlue terminal did not carry the desired egg and cheese sandwich and instead had to truck back to the end of the terminal for a bigger muffin than at Dunkin Donuts, only to have that place not offer hot chocolate (not everyone drinks coffee, people!) Then it was off to the gate to settle down to some much-needed sleep, a task thought impossible by the announcements to Cancun in both English and Spanish, followed by, "Happy January!" (She later realized they were really saying "Happy Jetting!" She kept thinking, "Who says 'Happy January?'") A group of kids who had British accents which then disappeared made it further harder to sleep when they launched into an off-key rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" -- a feat only matched by a girl who before the whole non-egg-and-cheese mission, when discussing the winners of the previous night's Golden Globes ceremony, said to her cohorts, "Slumdog Millionaire won? Oh, thank God!" In spite of all this, apparently it IS possible to go to sleep crunched up in a hard chair in a noisy airport, as the next thing Colleen heard was, "This is your final boarding call to Boston!"

For dinner, Colleen and Jon shared pizza while watching "Dick Cheney" on Jeopardy!, and then later settled into two hours of 24. --POSTED BY COLLEEN
