Money Made & Spent - February 17, 2009

Early this morning, we got up and headed into Denver to check out the US Mint. The facility is one of two which produces coins in the United States. The tour was much better than I could have ever imagined. Even the armed guard who followed us seemed "charming". The tour was a bit "Speed-esque". This tour must start in 14 minutes or something bad will happen... and "we have 2 minutes left to answer any questions, then everyone has to go."

It was interesting we chose this day to tour the Mint, since it just so happened that President Obama was in town. A few hours after our tour of seeing how money is made, he signed a bill aimed at spending a lot of coins - the $787 billion economic stimulus package. I hope it works, or this blog will be sorely lacking in the future. It takes money to go on these adventures. During our lunch with Colleen's friend Dawn @ Applebee's, the restaurant turned up the volume on the Obama event happening just down the road. Joe Biden must have blown a fuse, because the power went out as he was talking. It was actually probably just the high winds that day. But, luckily the wind-bag kept talking long enough that once the power came back on, President Obama hadn't started to speak yet. That was a close one!

Later, we got in a quick game of Uno before heading to the airport to head off to our separate locations - Colleen for vacation, me back to work.
