Today began with one of Jon's favorite non-stop flights. Boston-Newport News. It went off without a hitch and Jon was happy, because he raved to Colleen about how awesome the flight was. You blink and you are there. The Newport News airport is as convenient as ever. Walk out the front door and you pick up your rental car. Our first stop was Norfolk. Jon and Colleen visited Jon's friend Bruce. Why am I writing in the third person?
It was nice to see Bruce after several years. After visiting and a walk around Bruce's neighborhood, we went to Harbor Park to take in a Norfolk Tides baseball game. Before first pitch, Bruce and I kept up a longtime tradition of the "guess your speed" pitch contest. We're pretty sure the machine was rigged as we both threw the same speed for balls one and two, but then our speed jumped two miles per hour on ball three. I really wanted that Tides hat too!
Good form eh? Harbor Park is as beautiful as ever. I remember visiting as a kid with my parents. It's still as nice today.
Sadly, it appears Rip Tide, the mascot for the Tides, hasn't been updated since those first visits back in the mid 90's. He looks a little rough around the edges, but at least he poses for the photos (see July 4 post ahead).

Colleen, Jon and Bruce had a great time. We couldn't make it through the entire game to see the post-game fireworks. Colleen and Jon left after the 8th inning - as a long drive awaited to the Outer Banks. Bruce assured us later that despite the 8th inning charge by the Tides, they came up short in the 9th and the other team won. I'm pretty sure the Tides would be a better team if they were still affiliated with the Mets. But, alas, it's the Orioles for the foreseeable future.
Newport News airport: A+
Harbor Park: A
Tides performance: C-
